check unique visitor with IP address

hi,

i would like to check if a user is a unique visitor by checking their IP address. but i was thinking if a person goes to a coffee shop, and connect using the wifi hub. there are many user using the same ip address and many will not recorded in my system as they are using the same network.

One way to identify is by using cookies but cookies can easily delete from user browser option.

any other way or techniques that can identify if a user is new to my system by checking their ip address?

cool...i have made some research on reading on evercookie you have suggested. but i read quite many people saying there is a down side of creating too many http request that slow down the whole website.

i will consider taking this approach if that is the only way. are there any other way?
