mod_rewrite profiles

Hey guys, just getting my feet wet when it comes to CI. For the most part, it's easy to understand what CI is doing, other things are confusing the heck out of me. Mostly, mod_rewrite.

I need to set up a mod_rewrite for profiles in my application.


http://domain.com/profileName

to

http://domain.com/profile?profileName




I know I'll have to be careful as "views" could conflict with it. Also, it seems that the .htaccess above application/system is the one to edit, just want to ask if that is the right one?
