fiel does not exist error: news tutorial

I've just installed Codeigniter in a Mac OS X v. 10.6.8 using MAMP. I proceeded with the tutorial. Everything went perfectly all right, except in the end. In creating a news record, the submission of the corresponding form produces the following Apache error message and no record is inserted.

Sun Apr 08 19:11:17 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/Applications, referer: http://localhost:8888/index.php/news/create

I inserted records manually using the common php script and the database gets updated. Through Codeigniter, however, the operaton persists with the error message. Any idea what is happening? Thanks a lot
