Hi All,
I need to develop a shopping cart website using codeigniter. I am new to codeigniter framework. Can any one give me the suggestions regarding the cart development using codeigniter and about the advantages and disadvantages?

My suggestion is to use what others already have created. There are plenty of shopping carts built in CI. The one I've used for small testings and that does most of the job is: http://gocartdv.com/

You can modify its code to fit your websites layout etc.

Hi,

There is a simple but working shopping cart system on tsuk-ci2 based on the Total Shoppling Cart UK (free version).
This version is based on Codeigniter 2.1.2.

Not sure will this be a problem: it will be developed on PHP 5, but its the core function is built upon PHP4.
For an alternative (maybe next time), you may want to try some .Net shopping cart platform which provides more security leverage, and also makes the maintenance much easier than before.
