Type of Paypal account

I'm looking at coding something where I'll be using paypal for accepting payments, but I'm curious as to what type of account I'll need to be able to use their "api". Can I just use my free personal account or will I need to upgrade to another type of account to have access to that?

All constructive comments appreciated on this.

if you will receive the payment for business purpose, i think it will be better to upgrade it to business account. i think personal account is not suitable for business purpose and there is a possibility that your paypal will set a limit your paypal account's access.

i am not saying that using personal account is not allowed to receive payment, but if you want to avoid the limitation, it will be better to upgrade your account type.
