Customized URLs in Codeigniter

Hi,

We are trying to customize our URLs. As, we have read that it is possible via routing option of Codeigniter.

But, Can anyone please confirm that the URL redirection via routing is 301 redirection or 302. If any user changes the display URL for any page will google re-index it?

As we need 301 redirection, is it possible via routing option or htacess? If htaccess is the reply, can you please guide.
