Codeigniter licensing for commercial usage.

Hello,

I was reading Codeginiter licensing and asked some questions to Stackoverflow regarding to this. Someone told me "unfortunately they are not using a standard free software license, so you cannot rely on analysis by sources you may choose to trust, such as the OSI or the FSF". I don't understand what it means, so am I allowed to sell my application to someone using Codeigniter? And is Codeigniter free to use commercially?

It means that most analysis on the limits and permissions of common open source licenses don't apply to CodeIgniter's Open Source License (the actual name of it), because it is not as common and comes with certain restrictions.

CodeIgniter is both free to use commercially and allows you to sell applications built on it. Here's a big thread talking about it here: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/202562/

Note that this information pertains only to the upcoming 3.0+ versions. Prior versions retain their original license.
