and actually - if that truly is the reason this is failing, i may just scrap that little php file and just rewrite what it does into a new funciton in the perl script. maybe that would eliminate all of this.

I'm inclined to agree with you there. It seems very strange how things are being done at the moment, and that might make your code slightly more maintainable than it is at the moment.

Agreed. I really appreciate your time in trying to figure this out - it sure is a strange one. If I happen to figure anything else out (beyond just redoing it in perl), i'll post back here to satisfy your curiosity.

to finish this out - i scrapped the php file that perl was calling and re-wrote it in perl as a sub. Still a mystery to me, but life goes on. Smile

Thanks for posting back. It's a pity we never solved this, but at least you found a workaround. Perhaps this is a case for Mulder and Scully? Smile
