I like your reason for when merging databases.

I used to generate my own ideas with YYMMDDHHMMSS+random couple of numbers. Can't remember why we changed and started using auto increased DB indexing.

Well, if you don't like UUIDs, couldn't you use UniqId()? I haven't used it, personally. I always used GUID in the MS world and just imprinted on UUID, I guess...
