Codeigniter Image Resize LI

Hi.

I am trying to put my <li ><a>&lt;?php echo showPhoto($account_details->picture); ?&gt;</a></li>

But the image is to big for the Links in my menu I still would like the profile image to be normal size but change the menu profile picture to be 40x40 How do I make it so can be used for two.
