Ubuntu 16.04 released today. PHP upgraded to 7.0! |
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was released today. I'm not usually excited about new releases, but this one brings PHP 7.0!
See the release notes: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenialXerus/Rele...38#PHP_7.0

The symptoms I see are described here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/760724/16...sql-server
So, it looks like the issue only effects people upgrading to 16.04, as opposed to doing a clean install. If that's the case, I've had similar issues when trying to upgrade PHP to version 7 on Ubuntu 14.04. The solution ended up being a re-installation of one of the packages, although I never wrote down which one, and was just glad to have got my system back to normal so I could get back to work. If it was me, I'd start a new thread over at ubuntuforums.org.
Php 7 is a breathe of fresh air after learning to program using C and Pascal. Variable strictness should always have been an available option, same as VB.
My only concern has been discussed a couple of months ago. http://forum.codeigniter.com/thread-64011.html
