[HELP] $route['default_controller'] does not work on default installation

Hello CIers ,

I'm new to CI, just took the tutorials.

When I first unpacked CI, then went to the root directory, it gave me a 404 page, not the Welcome Page as I think it was supposed to be.

Also, later when I got to the $route['default_controller'] part, I noticed too that it deosn't work.

Any ideas why?

Make sure that the $config['base_url'] is correct (found in system/application/config/config.php).

thanks for the help inparo, however it's already set and I still get the 404 and cannot get the default route to work..

this is giving me a headache..
