Facing problem designing the site.

HI,
I'm learning CodeIgniter and facing some problem.

I'm designing a new site with css layout but when using base_url() function to link the css and other graphics on my page then it is problematic. I'm not able to view the page layout correctly in my design mode as it was designd it breaks the design layout(i'm using dreamweaver8). So, i'm facing problem to write and manage the site.

So, please suggest me what should i do. (I wanna also know how professionals maintain their sites.)

First design your site in plain old html and do all the necesary testing, when all is well make your CI template and add base_url to your css and images. I would also advise on not relying on design view to make a layout.
