Commercial CodeIgniter

Hello,

I'm aware that CodeIgniter is open-source software, but recently one of my clients has risen that it's illegal to sell an application built using a framework without a public domain license.

I'm not too sure about the law on this or if CI allows it, could I get some input from a experienced user?

Thanks,

Devlin

To clarify, I'm not selling CodeIgniter or a modified version of it; I'm using the standard version for it's standard use on a website that was built for a client.

hehe hope to not see another long license thread man.

You have to do a search on the forum first ! use the keyword LICENSE! Smile

good luck.

The license agreement for CodeIgniter (http://ellislab.com/codeigniter/user-guide/license.html) has 6 conditions. If you read those 6 and say "yes, I can do that" for all 6, then you can use CI in your project. If you can't then you can't use CI without breaching it's license.

It's a common misconception with Open Source, that "free" means you can't sell it. In reality, it's no different to Commercial Software really, if you can't abide by the terms of the license, you can't use it.
