I have created a product catalog site with codeigniter. I now wish to make an admin section where a user can login and Add,Update,and remove product departments,categories,and products. Does anyone know of any books to tutorials that will walk me through this? Or can you suggest any plugins or libraries that will help ease the development? Any suggestions on how to best approach this task of the admin section would be greatly appreciated by this beginner.

Welcome aboard bennyhill. You may want to consider an already existing software package. For example, with ExpressionEngine this would be very straightforward.

Since you already have a frontend, it might be a little late to switch to EE. Take a look at CodeExtinguisher (in the Ignited Code section). It's essentially made for this sort of situation.
