I'm using A3M for a long time now, and have no problem with it security. Would recommend using A3M, as an easy start to a project for "user management" rather for authentication.

If we start dropping libraries and helpers just to make it more light weight, we going to have problems getting libraries and helper functions back. The CodeIgniter community is already struggling...
