If you read through the General Topics sections of the User Guide in the order that they are presented, you get pretty close to the blog tutorial in the videos.
I do see where you're coming from though, it certainly would be nice if there was a transcript of the videos available. They really move too quickly to follow along. Also, I was forced to look at the page source so I could get the video URLs and download them to my desktop because my Linux desktop doesn't have a way to play quicktime videos embedded into a web page. (If the CI folks are watching, it would sure be nice if you could add links to the videos and/or put up Flash versions too.)
