Seriously considering CI: better to wait for v2?

Hi there,

I'm new here and my new project will most likely be developped with CI: should I wait for v2?
What are the important things to know if I want to easily upgrade?
When is v2 supposed to be released?

Many thanks in advance, as it's a big project I'm gonna start, I really want to do it the right wayWink

I would only reccomend you use CI 2.0 if you are capable of detecting and fixing bugs within the system. Otherwise your apps will break and you will have basically no support structure as there aren't that many people using it.

If you want to take the risk, go ahead: Upgrading to CodeIgniter 2.0.

Thanks Phil.
I didn't even know an alpha/beta version was released.I'll definitely not use it, I was more talking about the real -- stable -- version of v2, which I guess will come out in what, a few days / weeks / months / years (please circle the right answer).

Your guess is as good as anyone's. EllisLab release when a product is ready, whenever that may be.

Oh ok, there is no special info about that. So you guys advise to start with 1.7, I'll be able to enjoy 2.0 by upgrading? I don't want to be left behind and start all over again.

The upgrade path to CI 2.0 is mostly fine, just don't use any Plugins or the old Validation library and you won't need to recode anything more than a simple "Find and Replace" over your folder for other changes.

Ok that's exactly what I wanted to know.
Thanks again.
