Printing a file to a printer

hello,
am totally stuck, i want to format a report in my system and print it via a printer, i have tried a couple of ways but i couldn't make it.
All records are stored in the database, where i have to retrieve them and format a report for printing.
I kindly ask anyone who as gone through this to help me out.
