Why was scaffolding depreciated?

It's not a real big deal but, I was just wondering why scaffolding was depreciated. It seems like a very convenient feature to have in the framework.

It seems like the devs didn't feel like it was the job of a framework for this type of feature. I am sure a number of people were already using some type of gui tool for the database stuff. I used scaffolding once and it was handy. It just seems just as natural to being using a tool I already have open.

Yeah, I can see how it is kind of cool but maybe not core to the framework. I'm also wondering if it's a bit risky form a security perspective? I'm sure it can be locked down but it's probably more comforting just to not have it at all.

Could something like scaffolding be delivered as an add-on?

I think it's save to assume that the majority of developers have PHPmyAdmin handy, which does a much better job. I don't think that this kind of functionality should be part of the framework, it should be part of your development toolkit (for whatever db you're using).

I agree. I think you find those in the community that still want this feature, will get it up in the wiki. That's what so strong with CI is the active members.

Never really knew the point of scaffolding, always used phpmyadmin myself.
