xml-rpc vs rest | what would you use?

I'm working on laying out a project that is going to utilize xml-rpc or rest for an api. I'm hoping that someone with some experience in this area would give me their 2 cents on which route to take.

My experience here is limited, but REST seems sound in principal, and seems to be getting positive play from people who've used it. If I had to chose, I'd go REST based purely on positive feedback. Anyhow, take that with a grain of salt

I am using the xmlrpc library provided with codeigniter and that seems to work very well for me. I havnt used REST though so can't comment.
