Try using the search function - there have been more than a few threads regarding CI vs (insert framework here).

I'm wondering if the (insert framework here) forums get the same questions asked about CI.

Tominku,
I'm glad you brought this rarely discussed topic to light for conversation. I'm sure since it's not been discussed to death on these forums as well as the forums of just about every framework out there and there aren't about 100 independent evaluations and comparisons easily accessed through a simple google search, people will jump at the chance to fill this thread with fresh, enlightened, and well thought out responses.
I'm also positive that since this is a CodeIgniter forum people will go out of their way to steer you in the direction of the best solution even if that means steering you away from CodeIgniter because that happens all the time.

Good Luck!

I've never ever used CakePHP, and the only framework I've ever used is Codeigniter. Therefore I am DEFINITELY the best person to ask for a totally unbiased comparison of the two frameworks.

So after careful assessment:

Codeigniter is a lean flexible framework that works for me.

CakePHP has a nice name, and I like the fact they've got a 'bakery' section on the site. I also quite like the colour scheme. Plus they have Cakefest, which is in California which is apparently quite sunny.

Apologies for the sarcasm. Dude I think the best bet is the google search and if you're not happy with that, then try them for size.

I, for one, welcome our new Framework Comparison Overlords.

Here is a benchmark of CodeIgniter, Cake PHP and Symphony: http://www.sellersrank.com/php/cakephp-c...benchmark/
It's a Hello World benchmark, so I don't know how they perform when you have a lot of libraries, helpers, etc. loaded.

pickledegg2,
Very insightful post. In your opinion would say that it's the calories in cake that make it less lean? Also do you think it might be made more flexible by using more butter? Looking forward to your thoughts.

Used CakePHP before CI. It's really good in terms of features but it is forcing you to use them. Plus Cake documentation is Cake's weak spot.
