I use blog/post/12345/my-blog-title for detail views. I use both id and slug (title) to look up a post, to avoid duplicate content problems.
I do use dates in archive URIs, such as blog/archive/2010 for the 2010 archive, blog/archive/2010/01 for the January 2010 archive and blog/archive/2010/01/31 for teh 31 January 2010 archive.
I use blog/category/category-name for categories
