Using + in URI

Is this bad practice to permit this character in the URI? When I urlendcode I get links like foo+bar and I saw a couple posts about changing something in the Router.php file but I think that was an older version of CI. Anyways, I don't really understand why + isnt permitted by default. Please let me know!
