hot-reload side effects seem to be clobbering my app

I have managed to disable the toolbar by commenting it out in the Config/Filters.php
I have tweaked our code a bit and resolved the login issue.
I have also found the reason why my redirect was not going where I thought it should - the program was actually failing due to the lack or another component.
Soooo, pleased to say redirection seems to be fine. My bad ... as usual.
