Very basic quotes input issue.

[eluser]morph london[/eluser]
I am quite annoyed I don't already know this, so please forgive my stupidity. What is the best way of getting past this issue:

I have a database entry with the contents: "new article" 'test'
I am then passing this to a text field to be edited so this outputs: <input type="text" class="title" name="title" id="title" value=""New article" 'test'" />

And obviously breaks the field, whats the best way to stop this happening?
