Ovverride php script

Hi to all, I'm new in Codeigniter my problem is this:
I'm adapting to my needs an open source codeigniter project (Goautodial) but I would like to mantain original scripts
and keeps my modified scripts in a separate directory, configuring codeigniter to use my files, is it possible ?
So I can update the original project and keep trace of my edited files ....
