Help to add more features to image_lib (Image Library)

Hello.

I need some more actions to be performed with my images, who can help me on how can I extend Image Library and what tecnics to use to realize following:

1. Draw colored side-rectangle (floated left to the image).

2. Draw portrait frame (I have frame corners and frame piece for all sides.

Maybe I can use some good and community-approved library (must use GD)?
