Base path problem with CI

When I use this in a view file,

Code:

'Basepath: ' . BASEPATH . '<br />'.

I get the following output.

Basepath: C:\xampp\htdocs\ci_copy/system/

Can you see \ci_copy/system/?

I thought it is taken care of in index.php but it obviously not.

Could anyone give me some input how to solve this problem?
