Recommend using the Shopping Cart class?

I'm building an e-commerce site and will have a cart, is the Shopping Cart class something that will continue to be supported in future versions of CI? I had never noticed it before, is there any reason not to use it? It performs the same basic functionality I'd otherwise be building.
