Need help in uplading images ..

I am inserting record from product.xml files. and I am having product images in another folder name "images". All Product from xml file is inserted successfully but for images i don't have any idea. how can i upload and create a thumb of that images file and place it to my upload folder. I have to upload this images. Can any one tell what to do ?
