htaccess rewrite url

just wondering if it is possible to rewrite a url structure but keep paths in tact.

I have 2 urls (example) -

www.example.com/test/

www.example.com/other/

what I would like to do is rewrite test to other but still be able to access all the sub directories of test. So:

www.example.com/test/dir/
www.example.com/test/dir1/

would reside to

www.example.com/other/dir/
www.example.com/other/dir1/

Hence change url but retain path, is this possible?
