could be a number of reasons.

is the content is returned from the server quickly, and the browser is taking a while to compile the content?

when you put a lot of content within a table the browser will workout how to display the data before it is loaded on the browser.

you could put some timing information in your code to see how long the content takes to get returned from the server then you can help diagnose where the bottle neck is.
