CodeIgniter as "plugin" in other apps?

Let's say somebody runs a wordpress blog (or any other app) and wants a model of his bamooinvoice CI app (or any other CI app) to do something (fetch something from db or the like).

How could that be achieved? Include codeigniter/Codeigniter.php ...? and then ? Has anybody done that?

I'm including CI in another, much larger site, to handle online bookings and there seems to be no problems so far.
