What to use? Layout question...

Hello,

I'm blasted by CodeIgniters possibilities but one question still stands open for me. I dont know of I searched wrong, maybe. But my question is:

When I have a certain layout in which only on certain points dynamic content should be displayed, how to do this? Template Engine? I don't get really the point in this, maybe I'm just thinking wrong.

I have a 2 column layout, so I have a content and a sidebar box. In the contentarea logically everything imporant like database querys is displayed. The sidebar will be used for statistics and stuff.

Do you have any examples for me?

I'm currently working on a new site with a layout stolen from fesweb (third post down) and the principles are working quite nicely for me. I like the idea of separating out 'sub-views' as it were for generating commonly used components of the page, much as you're describing.
