I already mentioned in my first post that I checked the database.

Thank's for the suggestion. I read a little about the profiler but I had no idea it actually outputs the queries that were ran. The strings with 'š' seem to be correct in the query. The query output by the profiler works correctly in phpMyAdmin. Now I have no idea what's wrong with my application
