google maps api help

i am using the library from the wiki. http://codeigniter.com/wiki/Google_Maps/ and i read that the database option is to speed up the google maps.

is there a way to not use a database? when i try and view the page i get the following:

A Database Error Occurred

Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.



can i hook up the google map api without using the GEOCODES database?
