I have always used an old version of CI, but downloaded the latest version and found that smarty is not incorporated. To have smarty or to not have smarty... that is the questions... will be developing the whole system, so will not be having non developers try and "make" view pages. Any thoughts??? Should i just stick with creating the html php files? if there is another forum thread that addresses this, please tell me. thanks in advance

Hi btwong and welcome to the forums. As someone who's never used smarty .. I reckon you could get away without it, especially if you own (in the sense of being sole editor) all the content. You might want to check out Colin Williams' Template Library - which comes highly recommended if you really like the idea of a templating system.

if you want to try, then try philsturgeon template library its really easy to use and you can use Dwoo as template engine with this library, check out template library http://philsturgeon.co.uk/code/codeigniter-template and dawoo implementation http://philsturgeon.co.uk/code/codeigniter-dwoo

And if you want to use super easy and powerful template system, that include conditions, cycles, including etc. use main: http://parser.comper.sk/en/ (It's smaller than smarty, and I think it's better than smarty) |
