jQuery + CI Ping Times...Refactor help?

I seriously doubt this is the most pretty, or flawless, code, but I think it does work as I think I want it to. Was wonder if anyone would be willing to test it to see if they see anything I missed...

Requirements
* jQuery 1.5.1
* jQuery PeriodicalUpdate (with a small update...see below)
* CI 2 (I think...that's all I've tested it on...)
