AJAX, Jquery, MySQL dependant select menu

Does anyone know of an example of how to make a dependant select menu in codeigniter using Jquery, MySQL, PHP that is AJAX. I need it for a project and have been trying to figure it out myself as a way of learning. I have the PHP/Codeigniter/MySQL easy, I've been using it for years but the Jquery/AJAX I have no experience with and I'm really struggling to even get my head around it.

If anyone has done it before and can share the code it would be greatly appreciated.

If you're struggling with the jQuery and Ajax aspect of it, try learning through articles and such that are unrelated to CodeIgniter. Then when you're more familiar, you can try to incorporate it into your CI experience.
