FreakAuth and GD2

I recently download and installed FreakAuth (great application BTW) and noticed that the image library defaults to GD2. I attempted to change it to just GD and to no avail, the images could not be generated. To give you some systems background, I'm running FreeBSD 6.2-REL with php5/apache13. I also noticed there is not yet a GD2 port available for FreeBSD. Was there any particular reason for this choice? Are there other image libraries that can be used with FreakAuth for CAPTCHA?

why not try not using a captcha at all and instead use http://akismet.com/ - they have an api and using it means no need for a captcha at all - and one less hoop your users will have to jump through

Maybe I'm not fully getting the documentation. But it looks like Askismet only works with WordPress?
