Database connection charset Error

Hi

Has anyone any ideas why I'm getting this error in the logs?

Unable to set database connection charset: utf8

Do I have to set it to utf8 for CI to work?

Are you using MySQL? Which version?

Sorry - Yes mysql version 4.0.24 :-(

If I go back to CI verion 1.5.4 I think the charset settings didn't exist?
