OP here. In case anyone is curious, I installed latest CI3 a couple months ago and combined it with PHP 8.1. No errors/warnings/notices. Thanks everyone.

A client just got in touch with me about their provider updating to php 8.0. I grabbed the 3.1.13 version but noticed the download page didn't explicitly say it supported it, like version CI4 says.
