Sub Controller as the default controller?

Hello, I have controller Album inside a sub-folder gallery under the controller folder.
I´m trying to use it as the default controller so in my routes file I have:

$route['default_controller'] = "gallery/album";

But I get a 404 when accessing the site, am I doing something wrong here?

I'd appreciate any help.


Oh, and I also have mod_rewrite on... getting rid of the index.php on the query string.
