of course the code works, otherwise I wouldn't have placed it here. It proves that if the flash variable isn't set (flashdate() returns FALSE), it is set, and it it's set, it is displayed. Load the page the first time, and you'll see the "set data" message. Load it again, and you'll see the flash data. This load will expire the flashdata, so on the third load you'll see the "set data" message again...
What's the point you're trying to make?
