can view data in scaffolding but can't edit or create

I can get thru the main scaffolding view, and it displays the records of my database, however, when I create or edit, the error is it can't connect to the mysql database. I'm using mamp in mac osx 10.4, and it's port is 8889. Can't figure out the problem, it was able to get data from the database, so it means it was able to connect and retrieve, but not create or edit.
