form validation

Is there a simple way to validate together all items of a form, meanning to set all form items as required ?
I use 1.6.1 CI

There are no shortcuts because a form doesn't change every five minutes.

Upgrading to 1.7 would cut the necessary validation "set-up" code in half as the new form_validation library has setting rules and field names combined into one function.
