PHP 5.3: Undefined property: CI_Loader::$input

I am running CI 1.7.1 and I just upgraded from PHP 4.4 to PHP 5.3 (released today) and I am getting this error:

Undefined property: CI_Loader::$input

Any ideas what is wrong?

I am also getting messages:

I fixed it! I added
this->CI =& get_instance();
to the top of the file and changed $this->input to $this->CI->input...

Any ideas with the timezone warnings?

i've gotten those several times in the past and just used the date_timezone_set function (link) to fix it I believe

Or maybe it was
