Help: Routing caused "Duplicate title tags" and Google Webmaster Tools not crawling
#1

In February this year I was pleased that my site reached over 100,000 hits in a single day.

I thought I would try my hand at routing and introduced a route changing "/joke/show/title_of_joke/1234" to "joke/of_the_day/title_of_joke/1234". This worked a treat and I was under the misapprehension that my hits would increase.

Unfortunately since then my hits gave been gradually reducing and this month the average is less than 3,000 hits per day.

I took the time to try and establish the cause of the problem and Google's Webmaster Tools reports there are errors in "Duplicate title tags" pointing to URLs with identical data. It appears as though Google reached about 60 duplicate title and stopped indexing.

I have thought of these possible solutions:

1. remove the routing
2. add a random number or time variable to one or both of the duplicate links.
3. completely drop the existing URLs and to start all over again.

I would be grateful for some advice on the best route to increase the hits - no pun intended Smile

edit: changed title to something more meaningful?
