We use this on (very) large projects. So far no problems at all. Both in scale of the project and speed.
The easy of use is ridiculous compared to other (similar) frameworks:-)

how can you compare symfony, zend and codeigniter, how do you say that codeigniter is best then those?

You cannot say something is the best, that is totally subjective.

If a junior team member can use and understand a framework within a day, that means it is useable.
Compared to Yii, Zend and Symfony, CI is very well documented and very easy to understand.

All other comparisons are subjective to personal interest and experience. ofcourse you can compare functionality and speed, but you compare an apple and a lemon too.

Go with the framework that feels right for you and your team

For me, that is CI.

Thanks a lot , one last question, can we use ORM (doctrine or propel) with codeigniter?

There are a couple of ORM libraries(e.g. http://www.overzealous.com/dmz/) and you can even use doctrine with CI:http://www.phpandstuff.com/articles/codeigniter-doctrine-from-scratch-day-1-install-and-setup or http://code.google.com/p/ci-doctrine-enhanced/

I have some Symfony experience and what seems to me to be the biggest difference is that Symfony is aiming more towards huge projects. It has deployment options, whereas (as far as I know) CodeIgniter does not. Not that I like those options, but they exsist.

It generates a lot, including the database schemes.

CI just works quicker and might also give off a vibe off 'quick and dirty' to new people. Whereas Symfony really forces a lot on you and should be a no go for small projects in my opinion.

CI is the Framework of my choice.
